Marlo Weekley is a philosopher of landscapes and an advocate for sacred ecology, whose practice emerges from the tension between sensitivity and resilience. As an empath and highly attuned observer, Weekley felt the weight of the problems of the modern paradigm seemingly more than others did. She knew she was an artist, but knew also that something was missing in order to carry on as one in this life. The discovery of permaculture, and with it an ethos of abundance, offered a vital counterpoint: a path not of despair, but of design. From this awakening grew a surprisingly viable career path.
Weekley now creates spaces that simultaneously form ecological systems and works of art. These regenerative environments function seamlessly with embodying the beauty, flow, and generosity of wild nature. However, the work is less about ornamentation than about cultivating possibility and hope for the future. Gardens where community can gather, where artists might root themselves, and where future generations may inherit inspiration and resilience rather than scarcity. Drawing upon studies in ethnobotany, permaculture, biodynamics, scientific research, natural building, high-level artistry and craftsmanship, Weekley’s practice bridges fine art with ecological design. This merging of disciplines dreams toward a template for a new humanity—one where harmony is not an afterthought, but the organizing principle.
Learn from Marlo at the Florida Herbal Conference:
- Stacking Functions with Herbs
- 12:00 - 1:00 pm
Discover the hidden potential of herbs in this exploration of their many uses beyond the apothecary or kitchen. We’ll dive into how common and uncommon herbs can become powerful allies in ecological garden design. Herbs can serve as living mulches, low-maintenance ornamentals, pest-deterring companions, and fast-growing “chop-and-drop” support species. You’ll also learn how herbs can enrich pollinator habitats, flavor honey in unique ways, and bring beauty, depth, and resilience to any landscape.
