Laney Sullivan
Guest Teacher
Laney Sullivan is a musician, activist and community organizer based in Richmond, Virginia. Singer and multi instrumentalist, Laney plays in and manages the environmental folk band Høly River. She is also the co-founder of the Fonticello Food Forest community garden and Earthfolk a co-housing project in Southside Richmond. Founder of the Richmond Springs Collective, Laney is organizing and advocating for the re-opening of Richmond's historic springs for greater community resiliency. Laney was the initiator of the weekly "Free Farmstand" food pantry at fonticello food forest community garden. Whenever she is able, she loves to teach basket weaving. She has been teaching pine needle basket weaving and free from vine basket making for several years. Originally taught by elder Nancy Basket, with Nancy’s blessing Laney shares coil basket techniques working with Pine needles.

Learn the basics of coil basketry using longleaf Pine needles and artificial sinew. Make a tiny basket in one session or get a good start on a larger piece that you can continue to work on in your own time. We will talk about longleaf pine trees and their ecosystems while we work. $5-$10 materials fee ***** PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME******* Capacity 20 students
